We Shall Build Again (Advent 22)
“They shall build up the ancient ruins; they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.” -Isaiah 61:4
Anyone who has experienced heartbreaking disappointment or devastating loss, anyone who has been knocked down, knows how difficult it is to get back up and start over.
Some of us are not only stuck in our own cycles, for some of us it seems like everyone around us is struggling with the same. For some of us the struggle goes back many generations. The same patterns repeat themselves again and again.
Advent means coming to. No matter how bad things are, no matter how long they’ve been bad, we expect the power and presence of God to come into our lives. With that power we shall build again. With that grace we shall break all the negative cycles and transform our lives, our families, and our communities.
Beginning today, we shall build again.
