Living in the New Creation
“So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; look, new things have come into being!” - 2 Corinthians 5:17
This section of Corinthians declares that in Christ we have been reconciled to God. We next are called to be reconciled to each other. In fact we all have been called to be ambassadors and ministers of reconciliation in the world.
The new heaven and earth that is described here for us is not something that we are waiting to come at the end of time. It is a reality that we begin to live right here and right now.
In this reality, we let go of our grievances. We let go of our bitterness and resentment. We let go of the fears we have of each other as we work to find ways to come together.
This passage speaks of how we become the righteousness of God- not the self righteous of God, but the righteousness of God. We become people who practice kindness and compassion. We live generously and we fight for justice.
Today, we live in this new creation that will one day overtake the earth, starting with us, starting today.
