You Don’t Have to Go Along with It

“Now there was a good and righteous man named Joseph who, though a member of the council, had not agreed to their plan and action… This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.”- from Luke 22:50-52

The folks on the council were driven by fear. They were afraid that if Jesus kept stirring up the people with his calls for righteousness and justice and if Jesus kept contrasting the Kingdom of God with the empire of Rome, there was going to be a revolution.

If there was a revolution, the Roman army would be sent in to crush it. Rome didn’t make a lot of distinctions when they sent the army in. Every one and every thing would be destroyed. So to avoid that they plotted to get rid of Jesus.

Joseph spoke up for what was right. And when the other disciples were too afraid to claim Jesus, Joseph had the courage to claim his body, and spent the money to bury him properly.

Sometimes we don’t have the power or influence to change the toxic dynamics of the environments we find ourselves in. But we still don’t have to give into them. We don’t have to go along with them.

I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
