God Doesn’t Make Us…
“If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." - John 20:23
God doesn’t make us. God doesn’t make us love anyone. God doesn’t make us care. God doesn’t make us share who we are or what we have with anyone. God doesn’t make us turn around when we are going the wrong way. God doesn’t make us forgive.
No matter what, God is with us. God loves us. One by one, God whispers our names. God sends the breath of life to us, but we don’t have to take it in. God gives. God offers us the opportunity to grow our capacity to love and serve, to heal and forgive.
God leaves it entirely up to us. How long do we want to hold onto our pain and anger, our bitterness and resentment? We can keep them as long as we want. When we are ready to let them go, God gives us grace to do so through the gift of the Spirit.
