They Followed Him Anyway
They Followed Him Anyway
“After this he said to him, "Follow me."- from John 21:19
It would have been easy for the disciples to follow Jesus if they had believed following him was going to lead them to health, and wealth, and material prosperity.
However, in this case, Jesus had just finished describing to Peter how he would one day be arrested and executed. In fact nearly all of Jesus’s inner circle and the Apostle Paul were executed. They knew it was virtually inevitable that they would be if they followed him.
They followed him anyway.
Following him led them to their experiencing the Holy Spirt raising them up over the forces of fear, and hate, over injustice and oppression.
Following him allowed them to experience the Kingdom of God among them. Following him led them to a peace that surpassed all understanding.
Following him gave them a vision of the world so compelling that it was worth living for, and even worth dying for.
They followed him anyway.
