How to Get Unstuck
How to Get Unstuck
“ Then there came a voice to him that said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" - from 1 Kings 19:13
‘ What are you doing here?’ - a question so important that Elijah was asked it twice in verses 9 and 13. Elijah couldn’t stay where he was. The life he had known was gone never to return. He had to let go of his grief for the past and his fear of the future to get unstuck and move ahead.
What are you doing here?- a question that has to shift from being rhetorical to being literal. When the dream is dead, and the future we wanted is lost, we have to focus on our immediate next steps- not necessarily yet on a new dream.
In Elijah’s case he had to get out of Israel right away because they were going to kill him there. He needed to get to Damascus right away. How was he going to get there? - by traveling through the wilderness. Elijah slept, ate, prayed, and got moving to his next destination- not his final destination, his next.
Where do we need to go next? How are we going to get there? Initially, Elijah didn’t know exactly what he was going to do when he got there, but he couldn’t stay where he was. He had to get going.
We can’t stay where we are. We have to get moving.
I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
