60 Seconds of Hope with Horace McMillon
Sometimes It’s Not Hard. We Just Don’t Want To.
Sometimes It’s Not Hard. We Just Don’t Want to Do It
“Father, if the prophet had commanded you to do something difficult, would you not have done it? How much more, when all he said to you was, 'Wash, and be clean'?" - from 2 Kings 5:13
In most areas of his life, Naaman was highly successful. He was happily married. He was the top general in the army and answered only to the king. Yet he had a chronic condition, an incurable form of leprosy.
As a result, he told himself that he would be willing to do anything to be healthy and whole. It fact he got a special blessing from the king, and traveled a long way, with lots of money in hand, to a distant land to seek his healing.
In his mind, he had a very clear picture about what was going to take place and how his healing was going to happen. But it didn’t happen that way at all. The prophet didn’t greet him. No words of magic were spoken. No great ordeal was required of him.
He almost missed out on his healing despite having come so far and done so much. What the prophet asked him to do, wash in the Jordan seven times, wasn’t hard. He just didn’t want to do.
Sometimes it’s not about doing the hard things. It’s about doing the things we don’t want to.
I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
