60 Seconds of Hope: God Doesn’t Come In Wrath

“I will not execute my fierce anger… for I am God and no mortal, the Holy One in your midst, and I will not come in wrath.” - Hosea 11:9

The book of Hosea is not the most family friendly book in the Bible. But this is perhaps for another reflection. Hosea portrays God as one who relentlessly pursues humanity and desires nothing but the best for us, no matter how many times we disappoint or betray.

For going on three years now, I’ve written daily about the love God has for us and the love we should have for each other. This love is the ground of being for the hope that gives us the strength and tenacity to face each day, and the confidence to believe in better tomorrow.

From time to time I’m asked about God’s wrath. We humans have a tendency to nurse our resentments and hold on to our pain. There’s a part of us who would like to see everyone who has ever done us wrong get what they deserve. We want God to be the agent of our wrath.

Just remember, that God has no desire to condemn the world. God wants to see everyone and everything redeemed. Somewhere between now and eternity, I believe God’s desire will be fulfilled in us.

I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
