60 Seconds of Hope: Stay Ready
“Be dressed for action and have your lamps lit;” - Luke 12:35
There’s an expression that many of you are familiar with, “If you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready.” Jesus’s quote from the Gospel of Luke may have been the first time this expression was used.
In chapter 10, Jesus spoke on how we come to experience eternal life by loving God, ourselves and everyone else by sharing that love in very real and tangible ways with all our neighbors.
In chapter 11, Jesus teaches us to pray for the Kingdom of God to emerge within us and among us. And after we say amen and get off our knees, we get up and go to work for it relentlessly and consistently.
Here in chapter 12, Jesus reminds us that in order to live our purpose and answer our calling, we have to stay ready, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. We have to be good stewards of ourselves and of our resources in order to make the most of the opportunities that emerge to serve and make a difference.
When these opportunities come, it’s usually too late to get ready. We have to stay ready.
