When Family Can’t Come First
“From now on five in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three; they will be divided: father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law." - Luke 12:52-53
Many of us have been taught blood is thicker than water and that family must always come first. We’ve been taught like from the words of “The Godfather” to “Never go against the family.” Children must obey and everyone must be loyal. We’ve been taught to stick together right or wrong.
This must not be so in the Kingdom God desires for us. We do not turn a blind eye to the aunt or uncle, mother or father, son or daughter, or cousin who is doing wrong, abusing and exploiting others. We do not make excuses or alibis for them. We stop accepting the spoils of their ill gotten gains.
Family is important, but our highest loyalty is to God.
