60 Seconds of Hope: What Weight Do We Need To Drop?

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.” - Hebrews 12:1

The people who were listed among the faithful in the previous chapter were not perfect people who had led perfect lives. For some of them it was just the opposite, including Rahab. She was once a prostitute so notorious that when the king heard bad people has snuck into town, the first place he checked was at her house.

Rahab was remembered for risking her life to protect and save the spies, who in turn saved the people of Israel with the information they were able to provide because of her. She is remembered for saving all of her family who listened to her. She is also remembered as a great, great, great grandmother of Jesus himself.

To become a person of faith, Rahab had to let go of the guilt, shame, and regret that weighted her down in order to believe another life was possible. She had to let go of the anger and bitterness she no doubt felt about the circumstances that led or forced her into this life. She had to let go of old friends, associates, alliances, and even some family in order to embrace the new possibilities in front of her.

People of faith leave the weight of the past behind them. People of faith embrace their present opportunities and run towards the future.
