Faith Is Having A Dream That’s Worth The Sacrifice

“… For the sake of the joy that was set before him, (he) endured the cross, disregarding its shame…” -from Hebrews 12:2

What makes a person of faith? A person of faith and people of faith have a vision or dream for the world that is so important to them, so compelling, so beautiful, so inspiring, so powerful that they are willing to pour out their lives in service of it.

Jesus knew that the path he was on would inevitably lead him to his death on the cross. He didn’t want to die that way. But Jesus also knew that “Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds." (John 12:24) He had the faith to allow his life to become a fallen seed.

American civil rights leaders such as Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King, jr. lived under the constant threat of of violence. They knew the work they were engaging in would likely cost them their lives. But their vision, their divinely inspired dream, for the world, for their children, and then yet unborn grandchildren was so compelling that they lived their lives in service of it.

People of faith have and share a dream so powerful that it is worth all the sacrifices they make in pursuit of it.

I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
