If We Want To See A Brighter World
If We Want To See A Brighter World…
“If you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday.”- Isaiah 58:10
Things hadn’t just gotten bad in those section of Isaiah, they’d been bad for generations. Nevertheless, there was still a divinely inspired vision of a renewed and rebuilt brighter world that was possible for the people to create.
This new world is built upon a foundation of justice. Many of us have a limited view of justice. We too often think of justice only as seeing the wrong doer getting punished or the wronged getting restitution. This is part of what it means to see justice, but perhaps the smallest part.
The Biblical notion of justice described by the prophets describes what we might call a distributive justice. In a just society, everyone has access to what they need including food, clothing, shelter, and care. In particular, the hungry are fed, and afflictions be they physical, emotional, financial, or spiritual are cared for.
Working towards these kinds of societies and this kind of world is how our gloom will be chased away and replaced with the bright light of love.
I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
