Practice Gratitude 24/7/365

“From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the LORD is to be praised.” - Psalm 113:3

This week’s lectionary readings dealt with some pretty heavy topics. But in the middle of them we find Psalm 113.

It reminds us that even the midst of our hard times, we still have a lot to be grateful for. We still have a lot to celebrate. We still have a lot to thank God for and praise God’s name.

Did we wake up this morning with a mostly a sound mind and the use of our senses? Praise God for being able to see and hear, touch, taste, and feel, with the ability to perceive and understand.

Did have something to eat today? Did we have clothes to wear? Do we have shelter and a place to lay our heads? Praise God for that.

Do we have any friends or family that really care about us, who want to see the best for us? Praise God!

Have we had any teachers, counselors, or mentors who really tried to steer us right?

Have there been any strangers or people with no particular connection to us who showed us hospitality and kindness? Praise God!

Even if we couldn’t answer yes to everything, do we still have the opportunity to learn, grow, and heal. To develop our capabilities, reach our potential, and chase our dreams? Thank God.
