Be Faithful With Dirty Money (and it’s all dirty)

“If, then, you have not been faithful with the dishonest wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?” - Luke 16:11

The Roman Empire was perhaps the first global economy. It was virtually impossible to participate in it without in some way being tainted by or complicit in it. As it was then, so it is now. 

There’s a good chance the rare earth materials used to make our phones, tablets, computers, and batteries for electric vehicles were produced in a way that contaminated the local environment by workers who were treated very poorly, some of whom were likely children. 

There’s a good chance some of our clothing came from a sweatshop. The gas that fuels our cars and the trucks that bring our goods to market- We’ll if you are reading this, you are likely familiar with the sins that have been and continue to be committed around the world in the name of cheap gas. 

I could go on. 

Even if we ourselves have personal never done anything to harm or exploit anyone- we are the beneficiaries of exploitation. None of our wealth is clean. All our money is dirty. 

So we have a special obligation to be faithful use whatever little money we ourselves have to make life a little better for someone who has even less than ourselves.
