“I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever tries to make you small —
that I will take seriously…
and all families of the earth will be blessed through you.” — Genesis 12:3
When God calls Abram and Sarai,
there is no command to defend themselves.
No calling to argue with their critics.
No instruction to prove their worth.
There is simply a promise.
If someone tries to make you small —
to belittle you,
to treat you as insignificant —
that matters to the One who called you.
We do not have to exhaust ourselves fighting for our value.
We do not have to reflexively respond
to someone else’s attempt to belittle us.
God sees us.
God guides us.
God protects the promise.
Our calling is not about fighting our opponents.
Our calling is about becoming a blessing.
Not just to those we like.
Not just to those we agree with.
Not just to those who treat us kindly.
But to all families of the earth.
When we build others up,
we step into the wideness of that promise.
We are not called to retaliation.
We are called to become a blessing.
