When We’re Desperate For A Change
“They spread their cloaks on the road.” — (from Matthew 21:8)
When we are so desperate for a change that we’ll try almost anything…
That’s where the crowds in Jerusalem were.
They were tired of Roman occupation, injustice, and inequality.
They were ready to be free.
They were looking for someone to rescue them.
And they hoped so much in this stranger, Jesus,
that they spread their cloaks on the ground for him to ride on.
Sometimes we get so fed up with our situations
that we go places, do things,
and trust people we don’t really know or understand.
The crowd thought they knew what a messiah would look like.
And Jesus wasn’t it.
So they turned away.
And sometimes we do the same.
When we think we know what the answer should look like,
we can end up placing our trust in the wrong things.
But the work of God in our lives
doesn’t always come the way we expect.
And if we’re not careful,
we can miss it—
even when it’s right in front of us.
