When We Widen the Circle

Sometimes our focus stays close to what’s right in front of us—

our responsibilities,

our people,

what we can manage.

We care for the people closest to us,

and maybe say a prayer for everyone else.

In the immediate aftermath of the resurrection,

the people in Acts begin to live differently.

“They would sell their possessions and goods

and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need.” (Acts 2:45)

Their circle widens—

big enough to care for one another fully.

How does something like this happen?

It is not only through study and prayer,

but also through intentional acts of fellowship and community,

as they nurture a shared sense of awe and appreciation.

We become more willing to care for one another

when we begin to know one another—

and when we start to recognize the good

that is already unfolding all around us.

I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
